This handleless tea cup, a style know as Yunomi, is handcrafted pottery produced at the Hatano Kiln in Agano, Niigata Prefecture.

Yunomi are tradtionally used for everyday, casual tea drinking in Japan. These are pre-loved pieces sourced from Japan.

The octagonal shape is created using a specific 'mentori' (faceted) technique, where a round, handmade vessel is cut into an eight-sided form. The deep, lustrous dark brown glaze, referred to as 'anchi black' is a signature feature, derived from the high iron content in the local clay and a homemade glaze.

The entire process, from clay preperation to glazing, is done by hand.
