Antique Japanese Imari porcelain plate from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912).

Imari Small Plates are typically used for soy sauce, hors-d'oeuvres, pickles, and other culinary tidbits. They are also lovely pieces on which to serve nuts, sweets, cakes, cookies.

The design prominently features a combination of geometric and natural floral motifs, with the nature inspired designs and stylised landscapes reflecting a deep connection to the natural world. The Lotus Flower represents purity and enlightenment. This pattern is rare and  was sought among aristocratic classes.

The pattern was created by an old hand-transfer technique called Inban.

Imari ware was first created in Arita, Japan, in the early 17th century by Korean potters. The town of Imari was the primary port used to ship the finished porcelain to Europe and America.
